Earth Day Scratch PSA
For today’s Digital Skill, we’ll be using Scratch to create an interactive Earth Day Public Service Announcement (PSA) to share a message about climate action or protecting the oceans. PSAs are videos created to raise awareness and change public attitudes and behaviour toward a social issue.
Today our theme concentrates on goal 14 of the UN SDGs: Life Below Water
https://www.undp.org/content/undp/en/... Healthy oceans and seas are essential to our existence. They cover 70 percent of our planet and we rely on them for food, energy and water. Yet, we have managed to do tremendous damage to these precious resources. We must protect them by eliminating pollution and overfishing and immediately start to responsibly manage and protect all marine life around the world. Goal 14 has several targets to create action to conserve and sustainably use the oceans.

Circle Packing
Welcome to an exploration of algorithmic art. In this Digital Skill, students will use Scratch to create an abstract piece of art that is created by code. We call this algorithmic art since your art piece will be created by an algorithm - or a set of rules. For instance can you create a Circle Packing algorithm in Scratch such that a series of circles randomly appear but never touch or overlap?
Students will want to check out our Circle Packing sample here - feel free to remix it and make it your own.

Make a Paralax Skyline in Scratch
Today we will create a skyline animation using the parallax effect. It is this effect that gives many of your favourite video games and animations their feeling of movement. Our character will look like they are moving through the animation, but we will really be moving background layers at different speeds to create a realistic movement effect.
