Make A Big Face Box
I took this opportunity to make a device that many of us had seen before in our maker circles, The Big Face Box! This project is the perfect mix of cardboard, circuits and lenses. It is a great example of how Maker Ed and project-based learning can be successfully incorporated in the classroom and tied to curriculum. For this project you will need: - 1 file box - Ruler and pencil for measuring where to cut - Canary cardboard cutter (https://www.canary-usa.com/) - Duct tape - 1 extra large full page magnifier sheet (at least 8.5x11) - I got mine at the drugstore - Microbit - Adafruit NeoPixel LED Strip w/ Alligator Clips https://www.adafruit.com/product/3812 - 30 neopixel strip with alligator clips (1 metre long) Thank you for watching, if you enjoyed, be sure to like and subscribe for all things Brilliant! Brilliant Makercart: MakeyMakey Tutorial
The MakeyMakey will quickly become a favourite with your students. Once this simple device is connected to a computer, students are instantly on their way to becoming inventors. Without the need of a driver or additional software, the makeymakey provides a tactile interface between a computer program and any conductive materials. Your students will be demanding you bring in fruits, vegetables, tin-foil pie plates, and even pots of flowers. Ever wonder if an eggplant makes a better drum than an orange? With the makeymakey, your students will be testing the conductive properties of just about anything they can get their conductive hands on. Jay and Eric, the creators of the MakeyMakey have put together some incredible resources found at www.makeymakey.com. Browse through the hundreds of projects found in the gallery to inspire your students' next creation. Extra credit goes to the teacher who integrates the makeymakey into Grade 6 Science, or even Physics 11. The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Sport visited our summer STEAM camp at Beaconsfield Middle School in Saint John, NB on 17-Jul-19 to witness children having fun learning about digital technology, and to announce more than $1.6 million ACOA funding to Brilliant Labs to support the development of digital skills and competencies in Atlantic Canadian youth. Economic growth and the creation of good jobs for Atlantic Canadians requires a workforce with strong digital skills. Support for Brilliant Labs is one way the Government of Canada is growing the economy by working to give youth the education they need to thrive in a technologically advanced world, while creating a workforce with the skills businesses needed to grow and compete on a global level. Go outside and create your own code-able game with chalk. Create a grid, perhaps 6X6 or any size of your choice. Choose a few squares as your spray zones. One person is a robot and the other is the programmer. The programmer instructs the robot on how to get to a coloured (spray zone) square. If successful, then the programmer gets to spray the robot.
