Writing stories can help youth share their feelings, while teaching them valuable literacy skills. In this short tutorial Sarah visually shares how to create a www.storyboardthat.com story. Watch and create your own! Don’t forget to share it with us on any of our Brilliant Labs social media channels.

Your message or cause for change, whether it be in your community or a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UN SDG), is important. You will want to create images and videos that will spark emotion and create a Call to Action. In this video, you’ll learn how to use Adobe Spark, a free to use software, that will help you develop beautiful engaging videos that will motivate others to join your movement, share your message or support the needs of others. Learn more about the U.N. SDGs https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/

Computers have the ability to process information much faster than humans. What if they could be taught to learn like we can? Today’s video is all about creating models that can help our code to learn about different hand signals that represent peace.

We will be using the mBlock website to create our code: https://www.mblock.cc

We will be teaching our code using a technique called “supervised learning”, but there are other types of machine learning. To learn more about this interesting subject you can watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1wlC…

Become a global Citizen Scientist! Make your own local environmental observations, in particular cloud cover, that can compliment NASA satellite observations. Why are clouds important? How can we help monitor cloud conditions? In this digital skill, we will use the Globe Observer App to help answer these questions and become a Citizen Scientist.

Join the GLOBE observer App community to help collect scientific data for NASA, students and other scientists worldwide.

In this video you will learn about the parts of a satellite, and how to build your own.

Dans cette vidéo, vous découvrirez les différentes parties d’un satellite et comment construire le vôtre.

Today we will create a skyline animation using the parallax effect. It is this effect that gives many of your favourite video games and animations their feeling of movement. Our character will look like they are moving through the animation, but we will really be moving background layers at different speeds to create a realistic movement effect.

Circle Packing

Welcome to an exploration of algorithmic art. In this Digital Skill, students will use Scratch to create an abstract piece of art that is created by code. We call this algorithmic art since your art piece will be created by an algorithm – or a set of rules. For instance can you create a Circle Packing algorithm in Scratch such that a series of circles randomly appear but never touch or overlap?

Students will want to check out our Circle Packing sample here – feel free to remix it and make it your own.

Today’s Digital Skill is all about learning some of the languages that computers use to make websites. We will be using notepad++ to write code in HTML and CSS to build our very own website.

Learn how to code the Fibonacci sequence with Scratch! How can you change the code to make different patterns? Can you replicate another pattern from nature?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to create your own unique piece of music? What emotions or themes will your music send to others?

In today’s digital skill, we will create a piece of music with new and different sounds in whatever style you choose. Many different effects can be used and the choices of sounds, sequences, amplitudes and variances will create a unique piece that you can share with friends and family.

This digital skill meets the requirements of the Brilliant Labs Multi media badge.

For today’s Digital Skill, we’ll be using Scratch to create an interactive Earth Day Public Service Announcement (PSA) to share a message about climate action or protecting the oceans. PSAs are videos created to raise awareness and change public attitudes and behaviour toward a social issue.

Today our theme concentrates on goal 14 of the UN SDGs: Life Below Water

https://www.undp.org/content/undp/en/… Healthy oceans and seas are essential to our existence. They cover 70 percent of our planet and we rely on them for food, energy and water. Yet, we have managed to do tremendous damage to these precious resources. We must protect them by eliminating pollution and overfishing and immediately start to responsibly manage and protect all marine life around the world. Goal 14 has several targets to create action to conserve and sustainably use the oceans.

For today’s Digital Skill, we will explore the benefits of using a virtual prototyping space (TinkerCAD Circuits) for complex circuits like the one found inside the child’s telephone toy in this intro. Following this overview of why this toy telephone is being deconstructed, head over to this LINK HERE so my colleague John can take you through how to get started with TinkerCAD Circuits.

Part 1/5 Starting with Diagrams.net In this activity, we will be learning to use draw.io to create a purpose-built flowchart for decision-making. This can then be used to help assess the sustainability of zoos or nature preserves. A flowchart can aid in the decision-making and assessment process. This will start with design, revision, prototype, test and revision of the flowchart.
Visit: www.diagrams.net (formally design.io)
